Wide prospect in high-end plastic mold market In general, Chinese plastic mold has made big progress in quality, quantity, technology and ability and other aspects, but it still has a long distance compared with the needs of national economy development and world advanced levels. Some large, precise, complex, long lifetime plastic molds which are medium to high-grade still need to import. When products supply is unable to meet the demand, but some low-grade plastic molds supply exceed the demand, and some medium-grade plastic molds also have this kind of trend which are low-technology. Joint WTO, it brings huge challenge for plastic mold industry, but meanwhile more chance. Our plastic molds are major in medium to low-grade products, advanced in price, even some of the price is 67% to 80% cheaper than abroad. After joint WTO, foreign like products won’t impact domestic ones, and the exports of our medium to low-grade molds are increasing. In the aspect of high-precise mold, we major demand on import before joining WTO, after that, not only brings convenient for import of high-precise products, but also helps more investor coming to China. They bring advantage technology and management experience abroad, it helps us to train more professional mold talents. In 2006, the total production of Chinese plastic mold is more than $300 billions, among it, the export is about $58 billions. According to customs’ data, in 2006, we import about $10 billions plastic molds , it’s about £¤83 billions. So, in the aspect of sales market, it demands about £¤313 billion in plastic molds, domestic supplies are about £¤230 billions. It satisfies 75% market. Most are all kinds of decoration-molds for automobile, plastic-case molds for home applications, injection molds for communication and office implements, extrusion molds for construction material settings, plastic-filmed molds for electron industry settings and so on. Most of export plastic molds are medium to low-grade products. Low price in China, strong competition in international market, it certificated that export had increased on an average above 50% annually recent years, so the prospect of enlarging export will be bright. Mold export growth is greater than import growth recent years, but import absolute amount of increasing is greater than export, which increased foreign trade deficit of mold. This situation was improved and deficit reduced in 2006. two reasons about it: firstly, national economic developed in high-speed, especially the high demands of automobile industry, some high-grade mold couldn’t be produced at home, just imported. Some of domestic mold factories could produce but still import, which related on tax policy and administrative procedures for program. Secondly, lack of encouragement for mold export. The mold export rebate rate was only 13%, no reaching 17%, similar with other electromechanical products. Seen from market, plastic mold factory should develop molds which are high technology, precise, complicated, long time, and explore international market. With the development of Chinese plastic industry, especially in engineering plastics, we can foresee that, the rapid of Chinese plastic mold will quicker than mold industry continuously, the growth rate will remain at the level of 20% in further years. Recently, Hong Kong-invested enterprises, Taiwanese investment enterprises, overseas-funded enterprises have a rapid development in China, they don’t have exacted statistic data for their self-producing plastic molds, which don’t contained in that statistics.
